The National Audubon Society is perhaps the nation's best known wildlife preservation organization. The Center in Greenwich is a major sanctuary that lies within reach of the New York metropolitan area. It is a place for discovery, enjoyment, and learning.

The Center consists of 285 acres of open woodlands, meadows, ponds, and streams. With eight miles of beautiful trails, and a model backyard wildlife habitat, the Center offers visitors the opportunity to observe more than 900 species of ferns and flowering plants, and up to 35 species of mammals and 160 species of birds. The bird blinds around Mead Lake provide the chance to watch and photograph water birds without disturbing them. During the fall, the annual hawk migration can be seen from the Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch Site.

The Center's Kimberlin Nature Education Center houses administrative offices, a bird observation window, an art gallery, a demonstration bee hive, a weather computer, and the Nature Gift Store.

The Audubon Center can always be counted upon to provide excellent educational programs for adults and children. Those interested should contact the Center.

Hands-on School Programs are available for grades K through 12. Students can learn how to use all their senses for environmental studies, how plants and animals prepare for the winter, how photosynthesis works, and many other interesting lessons about the natural world we depend upon. Call for details.
