Brookdale College maintains two unique educational facilities at beautiful Sandy Hook: a Marine Science Lab building at Fort Hancock and a trailer at Horsehoe Cove. Both facilities offer classroom space, specimen collecting equipment, and microscopes.

School Groups (K-12) and others interested in nature and the marine sciences can receive hands-on, interactive training throughout the year. Some of the Programs include:

• The Ocean Institute Adventure Package: A multi-faceted fieldtrip that introduces students to marine life as they collect algae, crabs, fish, and shells and discover the interrelationship between sea and land. Optionally, the program can be tailored to fill the particular needs of a group. Time permitting, this trip can include an exploration of the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, the oldest operating lighthouse on the continent or the Fort Hancock Batteries, the historic fort that played a vital role in keeping New York Harbor safe.
• Weather Forecasts: An in-depth look at how hurricanes form and move up the coastline, with a focus on Hurricane Sandy
• Exploring the Salt Marsh: An exploration of the vast array of life here and the important role the Salt Marsh plays in the health of both land and sea environments.
• Twin Lights Lighthouse: This trip tours this historically important lighthouse and museum, explores its construction and the evolution of lighthouse lenses and, as a bonus, provides a commanding view of Sandy Hook.

A variety of other great programs are available covering an array of interesting topics. Interested groups should call with their specific needs.

Most of these programs last 3.5 hours, some more or less. While there is no minimum group size, there is a minimum charge of $250.00.
