This beautiful museum is located on the Rankokus Indian Reservation of the Powhatan Renape Nation. It offers one of the area's greatest opportunities to experience American Indian culture and learn of the many contributions Native Americans have made to this land. Of all the Indian Museums in New Jersey, this is the only one that is actually owned and operated by Indians!

The Museum features a wide variety of artifacts. Tools, weapons, clothing, crafts, musical instruments, and decorative arts are displayed in beautiful exhibits. Visitors can enjoy a Guided Tour conducted by an American Indian whose explanations and question-answering will enhance each exhibit.

Large dioramas depict the village life of many tribes, detailing shelter, daily chores, recreation, and ceremony.

Outside, visitors can explore a full-size re-creation of a traditional Woodland Ancestral Village, or walk one of the Self-Guided Nature Trails. Or say hello to the Reservation's buffalo, representing the animal that has played such an important role in the lives of early Indians.

The Museum also features an outstanding art gallery with changing exhibitions of Indian art. These pieces are also offered for sale.

Throughout the year visitors can also enjoy a number of special events, including audio-visual presentations, Indian music, and more. Call for a current calendar.

Groups are welcome here as well as families, and educational Group Tours are adapted to accommodate the age or special interests of the group. A tour lasts about 2 hours and is recommended for ages 5 and above.
