New Jersey and Pennsylvania each honor Washington's momentous crossing of the Delaware with a special park and a variety of historic sites and exhibits.

Beginning in 1912 as a 100-acre park including an overlook to the place where the Continental Army landed in New Jersey, the Park has grown today to an 841-acre historic site and recreation area.

The Visitor Center, near the site of the landing, offers visitors audio-visual aids that recall the perilous struggles endured by men and women during the War. The presentation includes re-enactments of the Battles of Trenton and Princeton, filmed during the Bicentennial. In addition, the magnificent Harry Kels Swan Collection of Revolutionary War artifacts is exhibited. Nearly 900 military items from both American and British Armies are shown, including the beautiful brace of pistols owned by Col. George Taylor.

Arranged chronologically, the exhibit encompasses twelve interpretive themes, beginning with the Prelude to the Revolution (1758 - 1773) and ending with the Results of the Revolution (1781 - 1783).

The Johnson Ferry House is believed to be where Washington and his officers discussed military strategy while the Army continued crossing the Delaware. Here visitors will find period rooms interpreting the 18th century life of the ferry keeper and his family.

Throughout the year various demonstrations and special events shed light on history for the entire family.

Group Tours are conducted as well.

The Nelson House, at the landing spot along the Delaware, features period furnishings as well as old photographs of the railroad and canal transportation.

The Natural Area consists of 140 pristine acres of mixed hardwood forests and fields in the northwest portion of the park. Here, the Nature Center offers exhibits and displays, and schedules a wide range of environmental educational activities for families and groups. During warmer months, the Open Air Theatre provides a beautiful setting for concerts and other performances. The large stage sits before a background of native shrubs and trees. The acoustics are excellent.

Aside from being an historic landmark, Washington Crossing State Park provides opportunities for many recreational activities. Picnicking, camping, fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, and other activities can all enjoyed here by families or groups.
