Consisting of three components, Museum, Pomona Hall and the Library, the Camden Historical Society is a fine resource for any interested in local history.

The Museum features permanent and changing exhibits that demonstrate 19th century life in the Camden area. Tour the "shops" of the blacksmith, the carpenter, candlemaker, cobbler, cooper and weaver through artifacts, photos and other items.

Displays of early American glass can be seen, as can lighting devices, firefighting equipment, toys and household implements. Transportation, military and industrial artifacts are also on hand.

Combined, these items tell the story of Camden's essential contribution to the region.

Pomona Hall was the 18th century home built by Joseph Cooper, Jr., a prominent Quaker. This beautiful Georgian-style mansion boasts authentic 18th and 19th century furnishings. A tour is a step back into time, where costumed interpreters demonstrate the activities of those fine old days. Once per month open hearth demonstrations are given.

The Library houses a vast collection of printed, photographic and other materials relating to Camden County and New Jersey. Researchers have thousands of written and graphic documents at their disposal, as well as genealogical records, newspapers and other items.

Throughout the year the Society sponsors ethnic festivals, workshops, tours, and educational support to members and non-members alike. Call for a calendar.

School Groups (elementary grades) can enjoy and learn from a tour of Pomona Hall and the Museum, as well as participate in an interactive program. One of the following topics can be covered: Open Hearth Cooking, Spinning, "Tales of New Jersey" film presentation, or Colonial Williamsburg Craft Videos. Some programs are seasonal. Traveling programs are also available. Groups can have a maximum of 50 students.
