The 1750/1770 home of Jonathan Hasbrouck became General George Washington's headquarters in 1782 and 1783. It was here in April of 83 that Washington learned of the successful negotiation of the peace treaty with the British and announced to his troops the end of the American Revolution.

Today the house is furnished to appear as it did at the time the General, Mrs. Washington, and their staffs lived and worked in it.

A separate Museum building houses exhibits on War for Independence themes, and on the soldiers and officers under Washington's command.

Guided Tours of the house provide a great educational experience for individuals, families, and groups. Visitors gain a better understanding of the lives of the men and women who built the great nation in which we live. Some very exciting special events are held throughout the year, as well.

For School Groups, grades 3 through 11, an educational program called, Washington's Aides and Guards, staff in period dress describe the weaponry and special roles of members of Washington's staff and the Commander-in-Chief's Guard. The program includes a house and museum tour, information about the officer's uniform, and the loading and firing of a flintlock musket. It takes about 90 minutes. Groups of up to 80 can be accommodated.

Biting the Bullet is a program for 4th through 12th grades that covers the practice of medicine in Washington's Army. During the Revolution, John Adams wrote, "Disease has destroyed ten men for us where the sword of the enemy has killed one." Students will learn why this was to be. This program takes 2½ hours, including a House and Museum tour, and can accommodate up to 55 students. In addition it can be delivered as a pre-visit outreach program.
