From spring through December, Old Bethpage recreates the atmosphere of a pre-Civil War Long Island Village, illustrating agricultural, domestic and commercial activities through the actual practice of crafts and skills.

On some 200 acres of rolling hills, more than 55 historic buildings -- all original structures saved from destruction and moved to the site -- provide the setting for costumed interpreters to portray farmers, teachers, storekeepers, blacksmiths, civic leaders, and the others who made up a community of the mid-1800s.

Old Bethpage features special seasonal activities, such as an 1860’s Independence Day Celebration, Decoration Day in May, and the Fall Harvest in September, the month of the Long Island Fair -- one of the state's oldest agricultural expositions.

As well as being a wonderful place for a family outing, with everyone from toddlers to senior citizens enjoying it here, Old Bethpage is very popular for groups of all kinds and ages. School Groups can take a Self-Guided Tour (grades 3 - 12) to gain an understanding of community life in the old days. Interactive School Programs where students are encouraged to try their hand at activities such as writing on a slate board at the Schoolhouse, butter churning at the Farmhouse, carding wool, playing 19th century games, and helping in the General Store are offered, and others are available.
