Overlooking the Hudson River, this fine museum can be found on the campus of the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale, in the Jacob Reingold Pavillion. Its collection features artifacts reflecting the customs and ceremonies of European and Oriental Jewry over the last three centuries. The Museum houses the Ralph and Leuba Baum collection of more than 800 Jewish ceremonial objects. As well as permanent exhibits of the collection, visitors can enjoy temporary exhibitions featuring local artists and collections. Beautiful and significant works in silver, gold, pewter, brass, ivory, wood, and rare embedded textiles can be enjoyed. The Judaica Museum is an important resource for its local and surrounding communities. Gallery Tours provide an introduction to Judaism through ritual objects. There are holiday programs and family workshops -- a calendar can be obtained by writing or calling. School Groups can enjoy a choice of three interactive tours: Let's Trace Our Roots, about genealogy and family history; The Joy of Giving "Tzedakah" (charity); and Jewish Lifestyles: Cultures and Customs. Each tour is followed by a hands-on Crafts Workshop where students create an object related to the exhibit. Groups may consist of up to 25 people.
