Recently renovated, this widely acclaimed institution is the only museum in the United States devoted to the art, history, and technology of motion pictures, television, and video. Here's what Stephen Holden of the New York Times had to say: "One had the sense of being transported from the everyday world straight to the set of a modern-day Oz . . . [Behind the Screen is] an educational fantasy world that teaches the history of the movie and television business while offering the hungriest nostalgia buffs tons of memorabilia." Behind the Screen . . . is a permanent exhibition designed to promote understanding of the place of film and television in American history and culture. And example of the Museum's outstanding changing exhibitions is Jim Henson's Fantastic World, celebrating the career and achievments of the ingenius puppeteer and storyteller who has reached virtually everyone through television, film and puppetry. Fifteen of Mr. Henson's famous personalities are on display, including Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Rowlf, and others. This changing exhibition is mentioned only as an example. Call the Museum or visit the official site, linked above, for the current calendar. The Museum of the Moving Image offers a wide arry of educational tours, workshops and screenings for School Groups of all ages. Hands-on Workshops complement guided tours of the Museum's exhibitions. Examples include:
