One of Philadelphia's finest small museums, Woodmere Art Museum is housed in a stately Victorian mansion in Chestnut Hill. The Museum showcases the wonderful works of art collected in the late 1800's by Charles Knox Smith. But there is far more still to enjoy.

Smith's paintings, sculpture, and antiques are joined by works of the Delaware Valley's contemporary artists. Eight galleries and salons display different exhibitions throughout the year, giving visitors reason to return again and again. Art of yesterday, today, and tomorrow are presented with an invigorating, professional style.

Visitors will enjoy works in all media here -- oil painting, sculpture, photography, watercolor, prints, children's art, Oriental rugs and prints, works in wood and porcelain. The Helen Millard Gallery presents art for children by children, giving student work from local schools professional museum display and attention.

Tours for individuals and families are Self-Guided. Groups, including School Groups, can enjoy educational Guided Tours. Led by knowledgeable docents, each group will gain a unique insight on a certain exhibit or some special aspect of the Museum, or perhaps on the life of an artist. The possibilities are virtually unlimited, and Museum staff are happy to work with teachers and group leaders in making a Tour both fun and productive.

A teaching museum, Woodmere provides art classes to families and individuals of all ages, and all levels of skill. The Museum's George D. Widener Memorial Studio is the site of classes in painting, sculpture, and other media.

Throughout the year a variety of special events can be enjoyed, including Juried Exhibitions, Gallery Talks, Museum Field Trips, Lectures, Concerts for Children and Adults, and much more. Call for a calendar.
