The Leonard and Mildred Rothman Gallery is a showcase for objects from the permanent collection of Franklin & Marshall College. The Gallery features several exhibition rooms, all of which combine to bring fine art and culture together in a way that reflects heritage regionally and on a broader scale.

Upon entering, visitors will find a gallery that features changing exhibits, each displaying the fine art form of the Gallery's permanent collection. To the rear of the gallery, Period Rooms display American decorative arts and portraiture, while the Hostetter Room showcases the Sully portraits of Judge Walter Franklin and Anne Emlen Franklin. This room is highlighted by a rare Chippendale carved walnut shelf clock, a Chippendale mahogany gaming table and commodore chair, and a Queen Anne tea table and roundabout chair.

Adjacent to the Hostetter Room, the North Room is a legacy of late 19th century fine and decorative arts from a distinguished Lancaster family. One of the finest pieces here is the American Chippendale mahogany tall case clock.

The Pennsylvania Room is devoted to folk art, made either in Pennsylvania or for Pennsylvanians. Examples include textiles, fraktur, ceramics, metals and glass. Objects of every day life were created as works of art by early Pennsylvania Germans. Tools, utensils, furnishings, and family documents are beautifully accented with tulips and birds -- images also popular on ceramics such as the spatterware and "Gaudy Dutch," which were exported from England exclusively for the Pennsylvania German market.

Individuals and families can enjoy a Self-Guided Tour, while Groups of all ages, including School Groups, can have a Guided Tour led by a knowledgeable docent.
