Dorney Park One of the East's largest, the 200-acre Dorney Park features more than 100 rides and attractions, including 3 world class roller coasters and 12 water slides in Wildwater Kingdom, White Water Landing is one of the highest, fastest water rides in the world. Hershey Park Part of the Hershey Empire, this 100-acre park features 5 roller coasters, including The Wildcat, the East's newest wooden roller coaster; 6 water rides; dozens of other rides; and ZooAmerica, an 11-acre walk-through wildlife park. Top-notch entertainment can be enjoyed in the Amphitheater. 2 hours west of Philadelphia. Knoebels Hometown Park Knoebels features more than 40 rides for all ages, including the Phoenix, a roller coaster rated among the nation's top 10. There is a castle, a haunted mansion, kiddie area, and an old carousel (catch the brass ring!). 2½ hours northwest of Philadelphia, 4 hours west of New York. Sesame Place This is perhaps the best known theme park for young children. It features Sesame Street characters and lots of water rides and activities. Half an hour north of Philly, 1½ - 2 hours south of New York. Shawnee Place Play & Water Park This fun park features more than 15 unique play elements, water slides, and the Venture River Ride -- with mini-canoes. Enjoy swimming, horseshoes, volleyball, mountain biking, and magic shows. 1½ - 2 hours north of Philadelphia, 1½ - 2 hours west of New York. Skirmish Paintball is more than running around in the woods shooting your friends with paint pellets. It's an organized game with rules, tactics, and an objective, and it's lots of fun. Skirmish is one of the nation's best. Its 700 wooded acres feature nearly 40 playing fields and 4 mock villages for guerilla activities. Some 700 people play at Skirmish every day. Individuals can join an existing team, and groups can form teams of their own. Games can be combined with whitewater rafting from spring through fall (see Pocono Whitewater Adventures). Terry Hill Water Park This attractive park features 3 swimming pools and a number of slides and gizmos, including a 4-story high figure-8 slide with a tunnel and speed drop. The kiddie area has 2 slides and a variety of other fun features. There is also a miniature golf course, a picnic area, and concessions. 60 - 90 minutes northwest of Philadelphia, 2 hours west of New York. Water World Here before the famous movie, Water World features a number of slides, a log flume, a children's play area, picnic areas. There are even volleyball courts, a deck hockey rink, and video games -- something for the whole family. About half an hour west of Philadelphia, 2 hours southwest of New York. |
