The Delaware History Museum, located in a renovated art-deco Woolworth store, features three galleries of changing interactive exhibits on Delaware history, including displays of rare items of everyday life, costumes, children's toys, regional decorative arts, and paintings. The Museum also features Grandma's Attic Kid's Museum, an educational play area for children where they can try on vintage clothes, play in an historic grocery store and kitchen, or sit in an overstuffed lounge chair and read old books and magazines. The Museum really shines with its more than 14 programs for School Groups. Each program, designed to meet or exceed many Delaware State Education Standards, includes illustrated, participatory storytelling, hands-on activities using reproduction and authentic artifacts and clothing, and a take-home craft. A few examples include: Prehistoric Delaware (grades K - 2) explores everything from dinosaurs to the early Indians. Activities include sculpting a clay pot, making a dinosaur puppet, and more. The Dutch and Swedes in Delaware (3 - 12) uses weaving, churning, and a Dutch/Swede Feud game to help students discover early Delaware life. Delaware in the Civil War (3 - 12) examines the life of a Civil War soldier. Many other 1 -1½-hour programs are available, each including great activities. There must be at least 1 adult per 8 students.
