It's not surprising that one of the most prestigious universities in the world offers a world-class museum of art. Established to give students access to original works of art, the Museum serves a much wider audience. Housed in a recently renovated building, the collections range from ancient to contemporary art, concentrating on the Mediterranean regions, Western Europe, China, the United States, and Latin America.

Virtually all media is represented here. Greek and Roman antiquities, including ceramics, marbles and bronzes, and Roman mosaics from Princeton's own excavations in Antioch comprise an outstanding collection. Sculpture, metalwork, and stained glass from Medieval Europe can also be found, as can important examples of Western European paintings from the early Renaissance through the 19th Century.

Chinese art -- bronzes, tomb figures, painting and calligraphy, as well as pre-Columbian art of the Maya, represent some of the Museum's greatest strengths. African art will also be found here, as will that of the American Indian. Drawing on these permanent collections, and collaborating at times with other University departments, the Museum presents wonderful exhibitions that are open to the public. Travelling exhibitions from all over the world can also be enjoyed here.

Throughout the year Museum staff holds gallery talks, symposia, lectures, and special programs for young and old alike. Call for a calendar of events.

Individuals, families and groups may take a self-guided tour. Groups (six or more people) of any age can arrange a docent-led tour for a small fee.

School Programs generally consist of a guided tour, however, teacher participation is invited in designing the program to suit student needs. When appropriate, programs may incorporate other points of interest on the campus.

Maximum group size is forty-eight people.
