This small zoo, nestled among the woods and waterways of Bridgeton City Park, is New Jersey's first zoo and one of the last free zoos in the nation. More than 60 years old, the Cohanzik Zoo displays more than 100 animals in modern, naturalistic exhibits. The emphasis here is the fauna of Asia and South America, and visitors will enjoy seeing monkeys, bears, big cats, crocodiles, and snakes. Cohanzik also features New Jersey's only walk-through aviary. Bridgeton itself is a city rich in history and in fact contains New Jersey's largest historic district. More than 20 buildings can be seen in a great walking tour, several of which can be entered and toured themselves. See more about Bridgeton elsewhere in this guide. The Zoo makes a great addition to any historical tour and also features an educational program for School Groups of any age.
