Beautiful Wheaton Village is a showplace of American craft, with an emphasis on the medium of glass -- so important to New Jersey's culture and history. Families and groups alike will find Wheaton Village to be an invaluable resource for education on the role of crafts in both traditional and contemporary life.

Wheaton Village performs its mission of presenting fine art and promoting glassmaking through a number of unique facilities, each of which offers its own exhibitions, demonstrations, and educational programs:

The Museum of American Glass
Nestled among the charming shops of Millville's Wheaton Village, the Museum of American Glass chronicles the history of American glassmaking from the early days to the exciting art glass movement of today.

Visitors can see more than 6,500 objects -- one of the nation's largest collections -- in a 20,000 square foot exhibition area. The collection is shown in period rooms and organized chronologically, beginning with a piece from the 1739 Wistarburgh Glass Works, America's first successful glass factory. Some of the other glass factories represented include Mount Washington, Pairpoint, Durand, and Tiffany.

A few examples of the many types of glass exhibited include

• Paperweights -- more than 300 of them
• Victorian art glass
• Uranium glass
• Free-blown whimsies

Works of contemporary artists such as Paul J. Stankard, Dale Chihuly, and Ginny Ruffner can be seen here, too. Visitors can also view the "World's Largest Bottle," which was made in Wheaton Village'sglass factory and featured in The Guinness Book of World Records.

Tours are Self-Guided, with exhibits well-labeled, and staff are on hand to answer questions.

Glass Studio in the T.C. Wheaton Glass Factory
Modeled after the original 1888 factory, this fully functioning studio has the equipment to produce both rtaditional and contemporary work.

Craft Studios
Ceramics, Woodcarving and Flameworking Studios, with skilled artists demonstrating throughout the day.

The Down Jersey Folklife Center
lThe Folklife Center presents an ongoing series of programs, events, and workshops derived from research of a wide variety of expressive traditions in New Jersey's southern eight counties.

The Gallery of Fine Craft
Shows the studio glass art and regional craft work of established and emerging artists, and exhibits the works of elemetary, secondary students work once or twice per year.

Wheaton Village offers a variety of programs for people of all ages throughout the year, including hands-on crafts workshops, educational programs, and special events. Call for details.
