The Stedman Art Gallery, established in 1975, is located in the Fine Arts Center at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Camden Campus. This fine gallery serves both its students and its surrounding communities through a series of outstanding exhibitions throughout each year as well as a Museum Education Enrichment Program. Stedman's growing collection focuses on works of art on or of paper by contemporary American artists, while also featuring excellent examples of work in other media and art from other times and places. Selected works from the collection comprise one of Stedman's great annual exhibitions. Works from other museums, from private collectors, and from artists themselves contribute to other exhibitions. The Gallery also features a program of special events such as lectures, performances, video programs, and art performances throughout the year. Call for a current calendar. The Museum Education Enrichment Program gives School and other children's Groups (elementary grades) the chance to participate in visual analysis exercises, thought-provoking gallery discussions, and education games. The program develops perceptual abilities, introduces the language of visual symbols, expands children's descriptive vocabulary, and enhances creative abilities. In all, Stedman Art Gallery proves itself to be a most valuable resource for its community.
