As one of the leading cultural centers in New York State, Caramoor offers opportunities to individuals and groups to enhance their appreciation of music and the arts. The landscape of Caramoor is a work of art in itself, consisting of serene gardens and walks -- perfect for pleasurable strolling and quiet contemplation. Inside the Rosen House Museum entire rooms from European villas and palaces are carefully preserved. Paintings, sculpture, textiles, jades, ceramics, stained glass, and furniture dating from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century evoke a deep appreciation of mankind's rich and varied artistic heritage. Throughout the year, the Rosen House sponsors education programs for adults and school and college students. Individuals or groups may participate in these Programs and special Tours that focus on the arts in their various aspects. Many of the programs will enhance an art or history curriculum. Pre-visit teacher's materials are available to help prepare the class. Two of the School Programs are, Ages and Ages of Animals (grades 2 thru 4): students tour Caramoor, discovering creatures in wall-coverings, wrought iron, furniture, and ceilings as an introduction to museums and various artistic media covering many centuries and styles; and Centuries of Splendor (grades 10 and above): for students of European history, a detailed tour through Caramoor's dozen period rooms. The Museum also sponsors an ongoing lecture series. Here noted art experts draw upon Caramoor's extensive collections to illustrate their subjects. The Music FestivalEvery June through August, Caramoor's Spanish Courtyard and Venetian Theater present outstanding concerts performed by renowned artists. This forty year tradition of presenting the best classical and big band musicians in the most beautiful settings has made The Caramoor Music Festival one of the summer's pre-eminent musical events. Call for the current summer schedule.
