Established in 1959 as a "Land for Learning," the Rye Nature Center encompasses 47 acres of forest, field, pond, and stream, providing an excellent outdoor laboratory for ecological study. It's a beautiful place, fine for those who want to get a little closer to nature, make photographs, or learn about something that affects us all.

Both children and adults will enjoy the Center's hands-on Museum with special exhibits to help reinforce lessons learned on the Center's 14-station, Self-Guided Trail.

The Center offers multi-segment Summer Programs for children in grades 1 through 6 -- hands-on programs that cover from basic introductions to nature through discovering ways to help wildlife survive in our urban environment.

School Programs are a specialty at the Center. Offered weekdays for preschool, elementary, middle and high school classes, most programs last one hour and are designed to interpret the natural environment in a manner that complements classroom work.

Various programs may be done at the Center or at school, and cover, among many other subjects, Geology, Bird Study, Animal Signs, Habitats, Pond Study, Water Ecology, Reptiles and Amphibians, and Energy Study. Some programs can be purchased as a series of seasonal investigations that examine natural changes taking place throughout the year.

Prices are very reasonable and the programs are sure to provide a useful and enjoyable educational experience for all who attend. Maximum of 20 students per group.
