The Prospect Park Zoo offers great opportunities for family or group outings. Exhibit areas include Animal Lifestyles, focusing on animal adaptations for life on land, in the water or in the air; Animals in Our Lives, which encompasses the important relationship between mankind and the animal kingdom, and includes animals in art, the history of domestication, and pet care; and the World of Animals, where kids can "hatch" from giant eggs (is that cool, or what?), walk with wallabies, and experience the sights and sounds of wildlife along the Discovery Trail. The Center offers a number of great weekend family programs with hands-on Activities for Children from Kindergarten and up with titles like Animal Detectives (animal tracks), Beastly Behavior (why animals act that way), Remarkable Reptiles (snakes, turtles and others), and many more. An Adult Workshop called Behavior Basics is also available. There are many fantastic School Programs for pre-K through 12, including, Home Sweet Home (pre-K and K): animal homes -- emphasizing different functions, and the animals that built them; Predator/Prey (grades 1 - 3): explores this relationship plus an introduction to the different food chains; The Endangered Ones (4 - 8): the whys, wherefores, and possible solutions to the depletion of so many species; and Issues in Conservation (9 - 12): an in-depth look at one of the following topics: The Disappearing Rain Forest, Endangered Species, Vandalism in Our Oceans, The Pollution Problem. Maximum class size is 25 students for pre-K and K, 35 for grades 1 - 12.
