Housed in the historic New York City Building, site of two World's Fairs and the first home of the United Nations, The Queens Museum of Art has become the principal center for fine arts in the Borough. With a focus on modern and contemporary art, the Museum presents permanent and changing exhibitions covering a wide variety of styles and disciplines -- exhibitions designed to enhance peoples' knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of the fine arts. The New York City Panorama, the world's largest architectural scale model, is a fascinating replica of the city including all of its highlights. It's easy to watch for a very long time as city events unfold before your eyes in miniature. This exhibit is a permanent feature of the Museum as is The New York City Building, covering the history of this famous site with special displays and memorabilia. As well as exhibitions, the Museum offers a number of Weekend Programs, including films, family workshops, lectures, and performances. School Programs for grades 1 through 12 combine various hands-on activities to introduce students to the fine arts. They can accommodate up to 35 students. Call for programs currently available. For students with disabilities, "Please Touch" programs include specially designed tours with tactile components. A hands-on program follows each tour. Outreach programs are also available.
