The New York Hall of Science has a reputation, spread from parent to parent and teacher to teacher, for being one of the best field trip destinations. New York's only hands-on science and technology center, NYHOS may be the standard to meet for science exhibitions, and with over 150 fascinating exhibits, it's a hard act to follow. Exhibits are grouped into several major areas, some of which are:
Exhibits are interactive. Kids and adults alike will enjoy playing with these scientific wonders. Throughout the year, temporary exhibitions, live demonstrations, videos and films offer families fun and education. Special weekend workshops and tours are available. Naturally, this is a very popular field trip for School Groups. Hands-on exhibits encourage students to participate and experiment, increasing their desire to learn. Student Workshops delivered by staff instructors feature Make it & Take It Activities, such as Science Detective (grades 3 - 6): crime solving, fingerprint analyses, etc.; Good Vibrations (grades 3 - 7): microsounds and amplification; The Eyes Have It (grades 3 - 7): exploring 3-D perception, and Green Chemistry (7 - 12): studies water samples and how organisms respond to contaminants, to name just a few. Workshops take about 45 minutes and can include up to 32 students plus teachers. Available for grades 3 thru 12.Science Access Center Workshops, for groups of up to 22, grades K thru 9, cover a variety of science-related subjects, and are ideal for gifted and talented classes, school science clubs, and special education classes. Supervision requirements provide for: children under 7 -- 1 adult per 5 children; children between 7 and 14 -- 1 adult per 10students. Programs for Teachers' Groups, Outreach Programs, and other exciting services available.
