Featuring a large permanent collection and fine changing exhibitions of contemporary and modern American Art, the Whitney Museum offers opportunities for visitors to experience some of the finest work in the field. With four floors of gallery space, the Museum constantly has something going on, including continuously running video and film presentations. Exhibitions have included the 1995 Biennial Exhibition (other biennials to follow), showcasing the most significant developments in American art, film and video over the past two years, and The Magic Book, featuring prints by artists Vija Celmins, Jane Hammond, Glenn Ligon, Philip Taaffe, and William Wegman, who have reinterpreted an 18th-century magic book. Many fine exhibitions exploring many different themes and media are scheduled throughout the year. The Museum also offers a full calendar of symposia, courses and events -- a great community resource for family education and entertainment. Groups are welcome to tour the Museum, and have the option of hiring a lecturer to make the most of the tour with interactive discussion. Minimum group size is 10, maximum is 60, 25 if a lecturer is hired.
