A National Historic Landmark, the Gemeinhaus is home to the Moravian Museum of Bethlehem. The building, a log structure that must have been ultra-modern in its day, has been in continuous use for more than 250 years. Today visitors can enjoy a full range of tour opportunities that bring Bethlehem history and Moravian culture to life. Among the Museum's many features are period rooms furnished to interpret the life and surroundings of the early Moravians.
Throughout the year the Museum presents a number of changing exhibitions which include original art, quilts, samplers, furniture, tools, toys, and tall-case clocks. Special events also take place here, many celebrating the various seasons and their holidays. All tours are led by a trained docent. Guided Tours can also include the nearby Apothecary Museum. Built in 1743, this shop contains many early artifacts, including a collection of rare Delft jars. The Nain-Schober House, the sole remaining structure from an 18th century Native American Village, can also be included in a tour. Moravian Community Walking Tours are also available. This Guided Walk includes the Museum, a stroll along Historic Church Street, God's Acre -- an old cemetery, and the interiors of two historic structures: a 1751 chapel and the 1803 Central Moravian Church. Friday evening programs are also available.Groups of 10 or more can enjoy any one of these tours, and School Groups will find them to be quite educational.
