The only museum in Northeastern Pennsylvania dedicated to preserving and showing the history of the Delaware Indian, the Pocono Indian Museum offers a variety of exhibits from a unique perspective. American Indians have a long and proud heritage in this region, extending back to around 10,500 B.C. and possibly farther. This museum displays ancient artifacts, weapons, and tools that form chronological commentary on life among the Indians. One of the more unsettling lessons to be learned here is how the Delaware Indians co-existed peacefully with other Indian nations for thousands of years, only to be virtually obliterated a scant 100 years after the white man came to these shores. The culture is almost entirely gone, to be found only in museums such as this. Tours are Self-Guided, and School and other Groups (10 or more) can arrange educational Guided Tours. Teachers can discuss their needs with Museum staff.
