This beautiful farm is a step back into Colonial times, when life was simple and self-sufficiency was much more important than it is today. Quiet Valley's fourteen buildings are interpreted by costumed "family" guides who share the daily routines of a thrifty and industrious Pennsylvania Dutch family and its descendants who lived at this location from 1765 to 1913. Guided tours and demonstrations take place on a continuous basis.

The main building has a large cellar-kitchen with an earthen floor and a huge fireplace. Here visitors can see cooking demonstrations and learn about the life of Colonial women. The bedroom includes a tester bed (a tester is a canopy), trundle bed, and cradle. A small parlor was added just beyond this room during the 1890's, and a "modern" kitchen with iron range and dry sink can be seen in this building, as well.

A "farmer" guide can be seen using farm equipment of many decades ago in the big barn, and spinning and weaving demonstrations take place in the "granddaddy house." Throughout the complex, the following activities can be seen on a daily basis: spinning, weaving of flax or wool, meat smoking, drying of fruits and vegetables, gardening, cooking or baking, tending of animals, and Colonial handcrafts.

The farm features a full range of barnyard animals -- work horse, cow, pigs, sheep, rabbits, chickens, ducks, cats, dogs, and others, and kids can touch them. Children can also enjoy a "hay jump."

School Groups, grades 3 and up, have a unique experience in store for them through a number of great hands-on programs. First, a 2-hour Group Tour, led by costumed guides, takes in the entire farm, including all fourteen buildings and even a Nature Trail. This tour is available April through June and in the fall. One Room School House Experience is a 3½-hour day at a 19th century school, complete with lessons and old-time games. Farm Hand Adventure is a 3½-hour program that features hands-on participation in grinding flour, kneading bread, churning butter, Colonial games, crafts, and other activities.
