With a spectacular newly expanded facility and exhibitions, the Jewish Museum is better than ever, presenting a variety of programs related to 4,000 years of Jewish culture and history.

Exhibitions include the best in art and history, in media of all kinds. For instance, Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey, is an 11,000 square foot permanent exhibition conveying the essence of Jewish identity as developed from the Biblical period to the present. It includes art, archaeology, ceremonial objects, audio and visual displays, and even an interactive computer program based on the Talmud that explores issues of importance to people of all cultures.

Other, changing exhibitions may highlight the works of Jewish artists or explore a specific period of Jewish history .

This New York institution also offers top notch Theatrical Performances, Lectures, Film Screenings, Tours, Workshops, Storytelling, and more, all designed to provide a fun, educational, and cultural experience for individuals and families. Call for a calendar of events and performances.

School Programs for grades K through 12 include, Sandbox Archaeology (grades K - 2): students handle the tools of an archaeologist as they unearth replicas of ancient objects in a sandbox; All About Hanukkah (grades K - 4): recounts the miracle of The Festival of Lights, putting the holiday into its historical perspective; Unraveling History with Signs and Symbols (grades 3 - 6): using the permanent exhibition, students are trained to view artifacts as more than just tools. They will decode ancient writings, learn about the history of the zodiac, and begin to recognize symbols that have endured the ages; Bridges and Boundaries: African Americans and American Jews (grades 6 - 12): provides a timely and critical educational perspective on conflict resolution.

Other programs are equally as interesting and educational. Most involve hands-on activities -- a very effective educational method. Programs can handle a maximum of 30 students and last 1 hour each. School Groups (up to 35 students) may also take a simple Tour, guided by their teacher.
